1. What does Phenomenal Woman mean to you?
A phenomenal woman is
one who climbs to the top and brings others with her. She is not concerned with
the trivial matters of life but rather she is focused on making the world a
better place for a lot of people. She is scared of no one and no challenge is
too hard for her to at least try.
2. What is your brand
and how did you get started?
I knew building a
brand would be difficult, but I was ready for the challenge. Instead of making
pointless resolutions for the year, I made goals and finally creating my blog
was one of those goals. It has been in the works since the beginning of 2017
and I have a name and a logo. Now it is time to just combine creativity with
consistency to produce a what I like to call a place for some pretty epic
conversations. My blog titled She’s Got A Lot to Say will hopefully be debuting
by Summer 2018.
3. What is your dream goal and how do you plan on achieving
it?
My dream goal is to
ultimately work for a publication that allows me to write, do videos and grow
creatively. I do not want to work at a job where I feel complacent. I do not
know what the ideal job is, but I do know that I want to grow and learn wherever
I go. I served as a Producer on campus for most of my college career so
broadcast is a passion of mine but I also love to write. A career where I could
do both would be amazing. I think working for Buzzfeed would be a lot of fun.
4. Name a moment that inspired you to feel more confident
and inspired you to be comfortable in the skin you're in.
Becoming a member of
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated helped me to become more confident and
comfortable. I surrounded myself with groundbreaking, goal-oriented women who
worked hard to make this world a better place historically. I realized that I
had just become a member of the sorority Rosa Parks, Coretta Scott King, Kamala
Harris, and Toni Morrison were in. There was no more room for mediocrity. It
was time to step it up.
5. Name a person (dead or alive) that you look up to and
why?
I really admire my
mother. The answer may seem cliche, but growing up, I did not always understand
everything she did. I thought she was being too harsh or mean to me growing up
but I realize now that she wanted me to be a strong, independent black woman.
In this world as a black woman, I will be doubted and challenged and it is my
job to show strength and push through the challenges. She has taught me to trust
in God and most importantly she has taught me how to be a lady who has a
profound presence even in my silence.
6. When it comes to being a woman, what do you feel should
be the three core values that a lady should uphold?
I believe that a woman should be intelligent, bold and
generous. Intelligent because knowledge cannot be taken from a woman and she
should always aim to be the smart girl in the room. Bold because her silence in
certain situations will never be her consent. She should know how to articulate
her opinion in a way that gets her point across and doesn’t offend others.
Generous because giving back makes life meaningful and helps to make the world
a better place. If she can touch the life of one person, maybe something can be
said or done that leads that person on a great path or motivates them to do
something they did not know they could do.
7. Favorite quote and what it means to you?
“Think like a queen.
A queen is not afraid to fail. Failure is another stepping stone to greatness.”-Oprah
Winfrey.
I love this quote because a lot of what happens in your life
happens once you get out of your head. You have to stop the mental roadblocks
that you create in your mind. In the past, I let fear stop me from creating my
brand and applying for internships and taking risks in life. Once I began to
think like a queen and realize that failure is actually good, I became much
happier in life overall.
8. Piece of advice that you would give to young girls who
aren't confident with themselves?
I would let them know that confidence is something that
grows over time. They could grow to be the most confident woman in the world,
but they will still have moments that bring up their insecurities. It does not
happen overnight and it is not always easy, but they should never let anyone
take their confidence from them. Looks may be what they think is important, but
no one can ever take your
education from you. Pour yourself into your passion
and you are bound for success.
