1. What does
"Distinguished Gentleman" mean to you?
A Distinguished
Gentleman is a man who is reliable, capable and willing to do what needs to be
done. Someone who carries himself in such a way that brings pride to his whole
family and in his deeds and actions paves the way for a better life for his
children.
2. What is your brand
and how did you get started?
My brand would be
best described as young professional. I’m a public relations practitioner, so I
am a social scientist. I build mutually beneficial relationships between the
company and the clientele for the long term. A huge part of my actually
profession deals with the brand or the
identity of my client.
3. What is your dream
goal and how do you plan on achieving it?
This is going to
sound cliché, but my end goal is happiness. I am going to work hard at working
as smartly as I can in my career to make a difference in this world. I want to
give my children a better life and I want to instill in them the drive to make
a better life for their kids like my parents did for me. That would make me
happy – Generational impact is the goal.
4. Name a moment that
you feel helped shape you into the young man that you are today.
There are so many. I
don’t think one moment made me who I am. It literally took a village to crank
out the person I am. I am grateful for every single person who advised me or
taught me or let me fall because ultimately that’s when I learned the most –
when I didn’t succeed. When I failed, I had the chance to analysis every detail
of my process and pinpoint what worked and what didn’t so that when I tried
again – because I always try again – I had a better chance at making it a
successful trail. My parents, grandparents, teachers, pastors and community
helped me learn that. It’s all of the moments that I had with them that made
into myself. I couldn’t be more thankful.
5. Name a person (dead
or alive) that you look up to & why?
Currently, I’m pretty
keen on Shawn Carter. First of all, his wife is Beyoncé who I adore
wholeheartedly! But, Mr. Carter is the perfect come up story. He managed, and
continues to, see a problem and find a solution. Finding solutions is a gift.
Most people only see the problem. His business ventures are an inspiration. I
watch him closely to see what he’s going to do next and how he going to grow so that I can apply those
skills to my life and career and try to grow as much I can. I admire that he
doesn’t stop! He is goals!
6. When it comes to
being a man, what do you feel should be the three core values that a gentleman uphold?
I touched on this
briefly in the first question, but I think right off hand a man should be
reliable; which already encompasses so much, he should be good; morals and
ethics help lead a man, and he should be tactful, he should be able to see what
needs to be done and get it done.
“When it gets tough,
that’s when you work harder!” – Beyoncé
Fact: Life can be
difficult. However, instead of giving up or letting go of your dreams you must
work, around or with the obstacles to achieve them.
8. Piece of advice that
you would give to young men of color who do not believe in themselves or lack
role models?
I would advise them
to find out what they want and think of a new way to make that happen. I would
want them to know that they can do more than play sports or rap – unless that’s
what they want – and still have prosperous life.
